[Hakai Chikara]

The unexamined life is not worth living

SL Username: Teitokuu
SL Display Name: Teitokuu
Character Name: Hakai Chikara, legally "Hideaki Chikara."
Age: 21
Race: Augmented Human
Origin: Kyoto, Japan.
Occupation: Former journalist for Kyoto Shimbun
Affiliation: N/A, possibly changing in the future.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personality/Overview: Opinionated, comforting and serious. If one were to try and describe Hakai, these are the words they would likely use. While usually speaking in a deep and soothing voice, he has a deep love for science - even after what it had done to him in the past.

Hakai is a man whom prides himself off of his intelligence and temperament. He has an extraordinary way of censoring his actions and keeping his emotions under control, not being one to flip out or be outrageous, even in the face of huge opponents or worrying circumstances. Due to this temperament control and intelligence, one could also imagine that he is also very observant. Rather than being the man to jump into the fire, he will observe the fire, take in what information he needs, then strike when needed. This could also be said for most things, rather than interfering in an event that was started by a place like Blue Skulls, he would simply observe the situation. As mentioned, this intelligence level extends far beyond these types of analytically views as well; not only breaking down and quickly grasping a situation, but applying his intelligence to his own fighting and way of life. Over time, Hakai has proven to be rather innovative and experimental with devices.

In the past, Hakai has been someone filled with anger and hatred. As a kid he would always pick fights with other people and be on the look out for any mischievous thing he could do. This attitude isn't so prevalent now though, due to events in his life, he has very much changed. Once an angry man growing up in a confusing world, Hakai became a man who internalized all of his anger, his sadness and any vulnerable personality. Even if he does feel anger or sadness, he's very much more likely to internalize and ignore it - rather than take it out on the person before him. For this reason, Hakai's main stress relief has always been personal training and use of punching bags. Not an angry person at heart, but all the frustration that gets built up over time ends up exploding, needing to express it somewhere. It would take an immeasurable amount of anger inducement to get Hakai to actually flip out and lose his mind in a fit of rage.

The most obvious thing once getting to know Hakai is the love for his family, what they represent and how they influence the world around him. From his parents to the people he potentially marries, Hakai is constantly looking to better his family name - or rather, help them become better humans. In a strange world, in a strange city like Hajime, it is very easy for one to get distorted and lose track of who they are at heart. For Hakai, it's almost a sense of debt to the world around him. His past anger, rage and destructive personality had caused harm to innocent people. A sense of duty to better the world around him, to never fall back to a persona of someone who makes life harder than it already is.

Tall, simplistic and active. With his long black hair, there are not many features that stand out about Hakai. When one meets him, their attention is likely to be on his height and stronger looking upper body. Standing at 6'8, Hakai often intimidates those around him simply by being present. No flashy piercings, no stand out amazing clothes. On the left side of his neck, a hieroglyphic of "force" in Japanese is printed in moderate size, signifying his last name. The character appears as a "力", signifying his loyalty to his family name.

Below are the core concepts of Hakai:

Positive Traits/Strengths:

  • Analytical: Formerly writing review and opinion pieces for Kyoto Shimbun, Hakai has a natural mind for deep analysis and critical thinking - striving for information, deconstructing the world around him.
  • Composed: It seems as if nothing gets under his skin, Hakai's attitude stems from his own sense of self control and understanding, some assuming it's impossible for him to get mad.
  • Protective: While generally calm, Hakai is very prone to those he cares about. Whether it's someone threatening his loved ones or them going through a hard time; he will help in whatever way he can.
  • Scientific drive: Hakai's interest in science had stemmed from a young age, all the way throughout his teenage years. While not considered a "mad" scientist by any means, he loves to experiment and create new tech. As a result of the nano machines within his body, Hakai is currently studying and driving to understanding nano tech better.

Negative Traits/Weaknesses:

  • Mental instability: One of Hakai's hidden weakness' is his almost inconsolable mentality, being diagnosed with clinical depression at around fifteen years old. While this doesn't necessarily show in his everyday interactions, it's always a hidden layer that seems to play up at times; particularly when he's alone.
  • Un-trusting: He considers everyone to be hostile unless otherwise proven. For this reason he is very hard to open up to, unless someone makes a genuine effort to prove themselves he is very likely to be wary and secretive.
  • Stubborn: Getting Hakai to budge on his beliefs can be hard unless empirical evidence is shown to the contrary. While not "up himself", Hakai definitely doesn't like being told what to do - he is pig headed and will often stick to his beliefs and ideals until it is too late.
  • Isolated: While being a skilled writer, Hakai struggles to find the proper words sometimes. For this reason he often tends to be quiet in social settings unless directly spoken to. Being new to Hajime City, this has proven to be a problematic portion of his personality.

Fun Facts/Quirks:

  • Gets shy and struggles to speak when complimented, especially multiple times in a row
  • Speaks Korean, Japanese and English
  • Stands at 6'8, abnormally tall for a Japanese male
  • Amazing memory, old boss asked why he was writing for a news company instead of in forensics or similar professions
  • Weighs literally one ton, the nano machines within his body giving him excelled strength and defense, but also incredible weight. The amount of chairs, sofas and beds he's utterly destroyed by forgetting his weight is ridiculously high.

Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Combat Abilities: Nano-technology

Nanites: Under his skin, coating the entirety of his body, small mechanical machines known as "Nanites" exist. These nanites work by compressing together in response to physical trauma on all parts of his body, shielding Hakai from damage or even allowing him to shift portions of his body into different, metal based, shapes at a more advanced level. The nanites react to mostly physical trauma, meaning that if someone were to use a baseball bat and hit him over the back of the head, for instance, the bat would easily shatter. Punching him in the stomach would easily result in a shattered fist or entire arm. Imagine two solids colliding, eventually one of the solids have to give way - usually the weaker. For one to force their way through the metallic shield of the nanites, an immense amount of force would be required. It is best to note that these nanites CANNOT be controlled personally by Hakai, they act as a reaction to sudden trauma and such. Although the nanites are incredibly hard to break, when they ARE broken, they tend to harden and sort of cauterize the area in a metal sheath over the surface of his skin - stopping blood from flowing through the wound, and becoming yet again even tougher to pierce.

  • Nanite Amplification: Being an augmented human, Hakai has had almost all forms of his physical self enhanced. This means that along with his massive weight increase, his physical prowess has drastically increased. In the same vane that he can take hits, Hakai has shown to be able to dish out devastating assaults. Whilst he normally doesn't engage in hand to hand combat unless it is the only option, taking a hit from Hakai could shatter bones or worse. This amplification is nothing to scoff at, however it must be noted that the strength is not absolute, meaning people can block or survive with the right powers or equipment.

  • Nanite formation: This technique is actually rather painful, but in certain circumstances, Hakai is capable of forming metal coatings over portions of his body. This means that instead of keeping the nanites compressed under his skin as a defense, he can make a formation of blades at the end of his fist or turn a kick into a spiked foot aiming to impale anyone it hits. Although, as mentioned, this is incredibly painful. It literally tears the nanites out from his skin and forces it into an offensive stance, often ripping his clothes and bleeding severely if recklessly performed. At most, this can be formed into two meters long. Beyond that is impossible as of the moment.

  • Hidden weight: While considered a weakness as well, his weight as a result of the nano machines can also be considered a rather heavy combat ability. Due to the nanites within his body, his total accumulation of weight has been excelled to one ton. Hakai's weight is hard to deal with for the most part, in combat for his enemies, and out of combat for himself. All different forms of furniture, from chairs to couches, from baths to wooden floors, all of these areas can be dangerous for Hakai to move on. As a result of this, he will often not sit in social settings and be the only one to stand around. However, when it comes to combat, the weight is a major asset as it can be flung around and even used to pin people down by him simply putting their arm on them. Most of the time he forgets his weight, many times causing accidental injuries.

  • Martial Arts training: One of Hakai's biggest strengths is his all round use of many different hand to hand combat styles, ranging from his main form of practice, Muay Thai, all the way to practices such as judo and kendo. A lot of his spare time is spend training, using punching bags and even softly sparring some people whom can withstand it. Never the less, he is one of the best practitioners of many forms of fighting styles. Whilst not a master by any means; facing Hakai in hand to hand combat would be tough.

Combat weaknesses

  • Physical Degradation: One of the main side effects of Hakai's intense defense and strength is that the nanites in his body are slowly killing him. In the same way that they can protect him from harm, the nano machines living within the inside layer of his body have seemingly been destroying and conflicting with other cells in his body - almost like a technological based cancer. This means that he often goes through periods of exhaustion/fatigue, even mid fight, because the nanites are working hard to destroy everything else that keeps him alive. Without a cure for said degradation, his life expectancy is said to be 3 years as of entering Hajime City. For this reason, he is consistently found at the hospital/medical area, seeking and looking for ways to cure himself.

  • NOT INVULNERABLE: Despite this nanite formation underneath his skin, it is still possible to either pierce Hakai's skin or hit him in a way that can injure him. Doing so is not so simple however, one has to hit so hard to break a formation extremely dense steel. The same is to be said for any sword or bladed/alternative weapon. Although it must be understood that there are much more effective ways of fighting Hakai.

  • Alternative Damage: When it comes to physical trauma, Hakai is hard to beat. However there is a way to get to Hakai and bypass that physical barrier of immense defense, and it is via alternative methods. If one were to try stab a needle into his arm, it would break. However, if one were to light him on fire - this could do immeasurable damage. The same is said to be electricity, as his body is lined with nano machines, he is basically a giant lightning rod. If one can find a way to deal with him other than impact, or direct injection to his skin, they can find a way to fight him.

  • Pulling of Heart Strings: One of Hakai's biggest weaknesses both in and out of combat is his protective attitude, mentioned above. While a good trait, this can often backfire in the middle of a fight or tense situation where the opponent turns and threatens someone he loves. For this reason, Hakai does not disclose a lot of his relationships so openly. Some, however, are so blatant that they cannot be ignored. Never the less, pull the right heart strings with Hakai? You can stop him in his tracks without even throwing a single punch.

  • Relatively slow: While his enhanced strength allows him to move around with his massive weight, Hakai is still extremely slow in comparison to most people - lugging all that weight around in the middle of a fight has proven to be tough.

Added Technology/Inventory: Smaller, non combatant additions have been added to Hakai. These take the form of the following:

  • Holographic camera phone
  • Small wireless earphones
  • Pocket filled with cigarettes
  • Increased image processing

History

Woooooooooosh. Howling through the hills, obliterating barns and flipping cars. The terrifying winds swept through the planes of Japan, crushing everything in their path - houses were torn apart while lives were lost. A small boy with long black hair had been huddled up to his mother, shaking with both fear and the icy breath of the winds. The windows around them continue to shatter one by one, each one causing them to jump more and more. "Hakai, listen to me. You'll be okay. This will be over soon." The sweet voice of his mother rang in the little boys ears, yet no matter how much she attempted to protect and coddle him... he only became more terrified. But what else was a mother to do? She would never abandon her son. She knew in her heart they would both likely not make it, but she couldn't expose her son to such thoughts. Not at such a young age, no kid should have to know fear of death. The wind continued to crack, this time lifting roofs of houses as both Hakai and his mother clung to each other as much as possible, held down by the weight of rubble that had fallen atop of them already. "We'll make it through this, I pro--" Just as Chou's sentence was about to finish, hurling through the air shot down a metal rod that was caught amid the tornado, flying into the roofless house and piercing straight through her neck. Blood instantly covered Hakai's face, the portion that didn't getting sucked into the tornado along with everything else surrounding them. With a soft voice, Hakai's eyes began to well up as he called for her. Life had seemingly empty her body instantly, all grip loosening on his body instantly.

"... mum? MUM!? NO, WHY, MUM COME BACK TO ME. MUM!?"

It had been ten years since that incident. The farm house that was located east of Kyoto had been nothing but a memory for all of the people whom had suffered the terrifying storms that swung through all those years ago, yet it had always stuck with one little boy. Hakai had been five at the time, but despite his young age, he never could forget about the incident. His mother had died right before his eyes, yet everyone wanted to act like it never happened. This made Hakai immeasurably angry. "Hideaki, your grades continue to be worse and worse. You've been suspended four times now for fighting with other kids. You even punched another child's dad in the face." The principle seemed concerned, and with good reason. He had constantly been picking fights with every other child at school if they so even looked at him funny, atop of that he was brought home numerous times by law enforcement for both graffiti and trashing property. "My name is Hakai Chikara, don't call me Hideaki." Hideaki was Hakai's name under law, however he had been given the nickname "Hakai" by his mother, meaning 'destruction', because as a kid he would always accidentally drop items. Eventually, his mothered deemed him her 'little destroyer.' "Come on, Hakai. You have to do better, I have work to do and can't be around all the time to bail you out of situations." Sat beside the fifteen year old boy was his father, Eiji. A frown covered his face as he gazed in the direction of Hakai for a good fifteen seconds, becomes the child finally replied. "That's funny, dad. You're usually never there in the first place, so what's the difference if you just fucked off right now? Probably nothing." Hakai had sent the entire room silent, his father looked to the principle and then to his own feet. Not only had his wife died, now he had his son blaming him for everything -- despite trying so hard to keep them afloat. The rest of this interview remained a blur for Hakai, however he remembers the rumors from kids around school. It went something along the lines of "holy shit, he punched the principle in the face" and "yeah, but I heard the principle fired back and tried to kill him."

At eighteen years old, not much had changed for Hakai. Not only had he dropped out of school, but he was smoking a pack of cigarettes a day and drank alcohol daily. It wasn't so bad to the point where he would get blasted drunk everyday, but this was the wrong direction for him to head in. For a small time, he had been working at Kyoto Shimbun, a newspaper agency that both published their stories online and in physical form. At the time, he wrote columns about politics and opinion pieces on current events. While everyone knew the name "Hakai Chikara" as a controversial political writer, they never really had a face to pin that to. The amount of fights and problems he had caused at his work place - it was a surprise that nobody within the agency had fired him. Hakai was well built, broad shoulders and around 6'6 height at this point. He was huge for a Japanese male, much larger than most would imagine so he stood out in a crowd very well. Although the figure and height seemed to scare some people off, apparently it didn't for everyone. Within seconds of walking out onto the street, a ringing began to sound out through the young males ears, almost as if his ear drums just popped and all sound faded away. Quickly after, his legs caved in on themselves before suddenly falling to the floor, followed by a sharp pain ringing up and down his spine. Hakai attempted to howl in pain, yet nothing came out. Even as he felt his body fall to the floor, he could only just feel the light tugging of his wrists as he was dragged off into a grey van; shortly after losing consciousness.

"Whe--rr----e a---m I...?" An intense pain rang throughout his spine, quickly noticing that his arms and legs were tied down. As his vision slowly became clearer, two words were made out on the wall. "Aggro Tech." Really? Hakai thought to himself. He had been walking home from work... and... pain? That's all he remembered, at least. Atop of the pain present in his spine, his speech appeared to be blurred, anything he tried to say became muffled and distorted. As memory of what happened to him seeped back into his mind, he thought about possible reasons he could be in an Aggro Tech facility. They were notorious for making weapons, right? Technological experimentation.

The night before, while at work, Hakai had been writing an article on the Blue Skulls. Normally, this would hardly raise an eyebrow among most media companies; the Blue Skulls copped angry opinion articles from the media all the time. This time seemed to be... different though. Hakai had managed to collect information on a drug named "Shift". For most of who were aware of its existence, Shift was a rather potent but dangerous drug that gave people immense feelings of pleasure while, after a certain period of time, incapacitating and wrecking the user into an inactive state. This information alone wouldn't gain much attention -- but weeks prior, Hakai had overheard a member of the Blue Skulls talking about administering it to anyone and everyone they could. Due to his risk taking and dangerously destructive behavior at the time, he had chosen to tail and eventually interrogate this man. Standing tall above the man, Hakai smirked and held the Skulls member by his throat. After some time, the information had seeped out, albeit scattered.

Hakai's biggest mistake in this moment was not killing this man.

He himself had not known this, but the man he interrogated? Gave up an exact description of Hakai. Not only had he found out where Hakai worked, but where he lived, where he frequently visited and things of the sort. The Blue Skulls had been planning this out for weeks, and yet Hakai had not even once thought about the possibility of a retaliation. It seemed like even Hakai could get ahead of himself and leaves holes in his plans. Yet as he laid there in the Aggro Tech facility, hands and legs bound... he couldn't help but laugh a bit. 'What a fitting end to such a story...' He thought. It felt like he had been laying there forever passing in and out of consciousness for a solid two hours. Yet what he pieced together in that time... it didn't seem like Aggro Tech were the ones whom kidnapped and drugged him. Throughout distorted conversations and such, it seemed like he was dropped off here as a... homeless participant for experiments? In the end it didn't matter why he was here, he was there right now.

Most of his time at Aggro Tech is... a blur, at best. Officially, after a few weeks of being considered an "experiment", Hakai had been let go. Officially, Hakai was pronounced dead at age 19. At first, he was thrown out as a failed experiment. But something changed. Life was brought back into his body, the technology they put inside of him allowed him to breathe life once more, compressing his heart until the blood started flowing again. Once he regained consciousness, he found himself in his apartment, on the floor. Around his body were needles as well as scattered substances; ranging from weed to heroin. Did... someone set him up to have committed suicide? He didn't actually know. Portions of his memory remained missing, he remembered writing an article for Kyoto Shimbun, but all data on the subject had been erased, as well as his memory of it. Apart from the surrounding needles, drugs and shady substances... was a large crack in the floor around his body. As he stood up, his foot sunk into the wooden floors and cracked with each step he took. At first, the confusion and panic had set in. Every step he took destroyed more and more floor boards, followed by the couch and bed. This is about the time he... learned what they had done to him.

For the next two years, he had spent time in Kyoto trying to understand what exactly had been done to him. It had seemed like... since this event, he tried to better himself. Most of his destructive nature since his mothers death had been put on the back burner, and attitude shifted as he entered into meditation and philosophy. Throughout these two years, he had heard about Aggro Tech and the facility located within Hajime City. Was that where he was kept? After all, that was the only recollection he had of the entire affair. He had heard of their advancements in technology, and if that was indeed the place which had housed him for experimentation, perhaps they had a cure or could remove whatever happened to him. Upon arriving at Hajime, however, it seemed his goal had shifted. The atmosphere, the people, the culture... It intrigued him. Perhaps... Perhaps Hakai could consider this place home.
