Etna's past life plays a key role into why she has become a fire imp with no clue why she was created.
Etna was born on the lone Island Exeden, a place full of natives who worshiped Gods of the elements. Growing up to become one of the priestesses of the Fire god, Etna lived a rather normal life, until the age of 19, her island was attacked.
How Ironic, she thought, to have spent her life worshiping a Fire god, for her to fall in the flames of her destroyed village. Looking at the flames engulf the sky Etna's soul cried out one last time before it was all over.
The people of Exeden have this belief system, that when one dies an unnatural death, they have the ability to be reborn into an otherworldly creature with some ability or affiliation with the element related to their death. A creature who will walk alongside the human realm, wishing, wanting, craving what they can no longer have. However this is not the case for everyone. Only those with a strong will and soul can have a chance to be reborn. Etna was one of the lucky souls that the gods took pity on, and so that is how Etna Drexden was born into the Yokai realm of Hajime as a mythological fire imp.
Imps are considered servants of the devil, or servants of gods. They are not generally violent, but rather mischievous.
Now Etna Drexden enters the realm of  Yokai as a fiery ball falling down into the soft grass just outside the City full of other other wordly creatures. With no memory of her past life except the vague flashes of people she doesn't know, Etna must learn not only about herself, but the world around her. Taking a deep breath, She takes a hesitant step towards town, not knowing what may adventures are ahead of her.
